Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22! Now more than ever, it’s so important for us to do our part to help preserve the planet and reduce our carbon footprint. It may sound cliche, but even the smallest actions can make a huge difference when we all participate.
This week, try thinking about some ways you and your family can make small changes.
Buy Local, and In Season
Even if you have your favorite fruits and veggies, try to keep a little guide like this infographic below to help you when shopping. When you buy produce in season, it’s cheaper, tastes better and is generally less likely to have been shipped from far away places and pumped with preservatives and GMOs.
Skip the Car
We know it’s tempting, especially if you’re toting around some little ones, but try walking, biking or taking public transport when you can. You’ll save gas, money and get in some exercise too!
Avoid Bulk Buying
Costco may be one of the greatest places on earth, and it’s hard not to go crazy. But really try sticking to just what you need when buying in bulk. Think of how much we as humans let go to waste, where do you think it all ends up? Landfills and our oceans, that’s where!
Swap your Lightbulbs
Compact fluorescent bulbs save energy, and if every home in the U.S. swapped them for the standard, outdated incandescent bulbs, we’d save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes in a year!
Try Meatless Mondays
While veganism is definitely on the rise, there’s no pressure to make the switch entirely. Even just having your family eat vegetarian one day a week can save water and resources. It takes 2500 gallons of water to produce ONE POUND of beef!
We hope you all enjoy this coming Earth Day, and take the chance to get outside and enjoy.
